This workshop is open to oil painters who are already comfortable with their media, and have experience working outdoors. We will start with field work: gathering possible candidates to be used for larger paintings, followed by a few days of studio work enlarging the studies selected. There will be a demonstration to show my process from start to finish. Students should expect to get a good start on the final painting but may not finish it entirely. My goal is to get the student to see the value in creating accurate field work that can be used as a reference in the studio, to work up a concept from the field into a strong studio painting that has similarities to, but is not a copy of, the field work. We will use photography where necessary and discuss the benefits and disadvantages of using them together. Field and studio work. Critique, materials discussion and group conversation. www.marchansonart.com

Taylors Falls 6th Annual Landscape Workshop
$650.00
Location: Marc Hanson's Studio - Taylors Falls, MN
Workshop Dates: 8/6/2012 - 8/10/2012
Contact Person: Marc R. Hanson

Please join me in Taylors Falls, MN for an adventure with your paints and your endurance in the field!  While we won't be scaling mountians, crossing fjords or dealing with too many wild critters, except mosquitoes, we will be working hard in the field morning until dark.  The class requires the ability to work independently with occassional critiques and advice.  This is a class for those painters with some previous experience, it's not for the beginning painter.
Students will have plenty of time to explore their own vision with at least two at the easel critiques, likely more, each day.  I will also be giving out a daily exercise to keep you on your toes, in addition to your own painting.
Daily start and finish times are being kept open ended in order to move with the weather and light.  More details on that when you contact me if interested.
Because there will be a certain level of experience required, I will be reviewing portfolios of applicants.  You don't need to be a professional painter, but you do need field experience and all that entails with supplies, being flexible, being able to endure the possibilities of heat, rain, bugs, wind, etc..
I'll be filling the class on a first come first served basis after having reviewed your portfolio.  Email me at marchansonart@gmail.com for more.  Thank you.

Yoga and Painting in Normandy, France August 2012!

Workshop Dates: 8/19/2012 - 8/27/2012

A Painting and Yoga Holiday in Normandy, France - August 2012!!!

Painting & Yoga in Normandy, France August 19-26, 2012

Picture This- the Ideal Painting Holiday

Start the day with yoga to awaken the senses, enjoy fresh baked croissants, baguettes and jam and a bowl of coffee before setting out for the day to explore the Norman countryside. Take time each day to paint what you see, what you feel, what you sense on a painting holiday with artist Marc Hanson.

We'll be touring and traveling the French country side with Chris Coleman who is a very experienced French guide. For the painting part of the trip we are hoping that the participants, experienced or not, will bring along a small scale painting supply bag. Possibly gouache, watercolor or acrylic paints and a small pad or pads of paper to paint on. The painting and the yoga is open to you whether you've never practiced either before or are an old hand at both. Instruction will be limited but as we are both teachers of our respective professions and loves, you can be sure that there will be plenty of helpful advice. If you are new to painting, or to plein air painting, don't worry, I'll be there to help you along the way to learn a new and fascinating way to record your travels. More info on the specific supplies will be available as we get closer to trip time.

Chris Coleman, an experienced yoga instructor and owner of Yoga Hus - Scandia, MN, will instruct yoga classes for people of all abilities both indoors and out (weather permitting). Chris is a seasoned (14 years) tour guide in France with Rick Steves and will guide you through her second home - la Belle France! Chris will teach you key French phrases, offer wine tasting classes, and help you avoid cultural faux pas. We will want to make your painting holiday in France a memorable one! Please join us!
