Please join me for 5 days in beautiful Taylors Falls, MN
for an on location landscape painting workshop.
Taylors Falls is an historic lumber town, with an entire neighboorhood
built between 1850 and 1865, 'Angel Hill', and is on the
National Historic Register. In addition the St.Croix River, a National
Wild and Scenic River, runs below town cutting through high stone cliffs
adorned with majestic white pine trees. Paintings are everywhere!
The purpose of this workshop is to reinforce the 'basics' in your approach to painting.
How to effectively structure a painting from 'concept' to the last brush stroke, re-examining
your understanding of 'value' relationships, how they relate to color relationships, and
how that understanding makes for a stronger painting. I will emphasize simplifying masses,
value, color, and details in your studies in order to more effectively communicate your idea
to the viewer.
This is going to be an intensive workshop for painters interested in working hard at improving upon
their painting knowledge. We have a good time and at the same time seriously approach the areas of
painting that we feel we need improvement. The small town atmosphere of Taylors Falls and the
'backyard' headquarters that we stage in, all lead to five days of an experience that will leave you with
new friends and a wonderful painting experience.
Demonstrations, exercises, plenty of painting time, critiques at the easel and as a group, will fill the 5 days
of this clinic.
The class is open to painters of any level working in oil paints or dry pastels.
We will be painting outside no matter the weather. And we may be painting in a Minnesota State Park,
requiring a car sticker for entrance. In case of wet weather, there are
covered pavilions to paint from. If you are a pastelist and paint in another more 'weather worthy'
medium, I'd suggest bringing it along in addition to the pastels just in case.
The dates are: Monday to Friday - August 10, 11, 12 & 13th, 2010.
Class meets: 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. A one hour break for lunch 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.
A Nocturne Night is a possibility depending on weather.
